Who am I?
That's always one of the most challenging questions to answer. How much information is too much? What information is important and which is irrelevant? It's aways a challenge trying to figure out what to actually write on one of these things.
I'm not much different from most people, but with a couple exceptions. First, I'm one of those rare breeds who is able to use his left brain and right brain pretty much equally. This means that I am equally comfortable dealing with science, technology, and math as I am with painting, drawing, and designing.
This makes for a pretty weird mix. I've operated nuclear reactors for the US Navy and what amounts to charged particle accelerators (ion implanters) for the semiconductor industry. I've also designed book covers, posters, and marketing collateral for New York Times Best Selling Authors. I've written my own quirky coffee table book (Mental Graffiti) and am in the process of writing a supernatural series of books. I've troubleshot electronics systems and have won art contests.
It's pretty normal to me... but dang, I know it is weird.
If I were to summarize on a general purpose resume, it would go something like this:
I am an accomplished and enthusiastic multi-creative with an extensive background in graphic design and the arts, technical communications, desktop publishing, problem solving, and project/resource management. I'm a freaking technical and creative egghead, yo!
As far as what else I could say, I guess there are some things you may be interested in knowing about me…
- He/Him/His
- I was born early in the groovy 70′s…
- I wear glasses…
- I am married to an amazing woman who could kick your and my butt without trying... she is amazing in so many different ways. As an example, how many of you are married to a 16-year hockey veteran who missed making the olympic team by a hair? I didn't think so...
- I am the father of two wonderful children (Rachael and Logan)…
- I am pessimistically optimistic (or is that optimistically pessimistic?) about life and everything in it, with a touch of nostalgic lightheartedness thrown in to boot…
- I have a distinguished hairline, which I currently “enhance” by chopping off all that pesky, troublesome hair and taking it down to the smooth scalp… oooh, shiny!…
- By genetic heritage, I have more in common with a mutt than a pure-bred… I am about 1/8th Native American, Deutch, Irish, English, with a little of everything else sprinkled throughout… plus 100% man, baby!…
- I live and work in Virginia in the U S of A… but my creative, dreaming heart is in Luna City… or maybe Tertius and Boondock… and am equally at home on the Sorcerer’s Isle, Barsoom, and Vulcan…
- By profession, I am a technical instructor and curriculum developer… by passion I am a cad (Creative and Artistic Designer)…
- I’ve worked in, and have experienced, a variety of professions and roles: industrial janitor at an iron foundry, manual laborer, newspaper stacker, foundry technician and mold-press operator, landscaping artist, lover, fighter, naval nuclear-trained janitor, naval reactor operator, supervisor and manager of individuals and groups, anal-retentive perfectionist, world traveller (US, Singapore, Hong Kong, Jebel Ali in the United Arab Emirates, Ireland, Germany, Korea, Taiwan, and Australia, to drop some names), technical instructor and writer, and creative consultant, just to name a few…
- What I write here is my own opinion, so don’t blame anyone else, such as my parents, school system, employers, or mind-controlling aliens…
- Give me beef, chicken, pasta, and dairy products and I’m a happy man…
- I’ll drink just about anything… just make sure I don’t overindulge, please!…
- Escaping into a good book is not just a hobby… it’s my way of life… read any good ones lately?…
- Creatively, I am unfettered: I enjoy pencil drawing, product design, digital photography, sculpting, inks, paints, custom figure design, custom bookbinding, and RPG design, but these just scratch the surface…
- My favorite RPG character to play is a male half-orc mercenary or a female Nautolan mercenary or anything else with a troubled past...
- It’s not that I’m always right, it’s just that I’m so rarely wrong… either way, it’s a problem that I’ve learned to deal with…
- I often do not have any time to do the things I want to do, but I always make time to do the things I say I will…
